Air Zimbabwe - A Legacy of National Pride and Global Connectivity

Background and Business Activities

Air Zimbabwe stands as the flag carrier of Zimbabwe, dedicated to delivering reliable air travel solutions for the Zimbabwean community, the African continent, and the wider world. Established in 1967, the airline has remained a cornerstone of national identity and international engagement, proudly serving passengers across generations.

The airline’s heritage traces back to 1946, when it operated as Central Africa Airways, a joint carrier for Nyasaland, Southern Rhodesia, and Northern Rhodesia. This tripartite arrangement continued until 1967, when the partnership dissolved, giving rise to Air Rhodesia. Following Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980, the airline embraced its new identity as Air Zimbabwe, symbolizing the nation’s sovereignty and aspirations.

Initially operating as Air Zimbabwe Corporation, the airline transitioned in 1997 to Air Zimbabwe Pvt Ltd, in accordance with the Air Zimbabwe Corporation Repeal Act No. 4 of 1998. Today, it is formally registered as Air Zimbabwe Pvt Ltd (REG NO. 10852/97) and continues to conduct business under this structure.

As a proud member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the African Airlines Association (AFRAA), Air Zimbabwe remains firmly integrated into the global aviation community. Its enduring mission is not only to connect Zimbabwe to the world but also to reinforce its role as a symbol of national pride, resilience, and reengagement with the international stage.
